What is Assisted Stretch Therapy?

The Most Commonly Asked Questions About Assisted Stretch Therapy

What is assisted stretching? Assisted stretch is when a therapist stretches a person allowing for a passive stretch. The benefits are that it helps prevent injury, improve circulation to aid in healing, reduce pain, and much more!

Who performs assisted stretch? A certified stretch therapist or flexologist.  Many therapists also have professional licenses as nurses, physical therapists, massage therapists, occupational therapists, and more.

Who should get assisted stretch?  Everyone.  Every person should have a deeper stretch to all-over body muscle groups.  Even the most active person cannot get to certain stretches that one can achieve when fully relaxed, allowing someone else to do the work.  If the person is healthy, the stretch can help maintain and prevent injury.  If a person has ailments or injuries, the stretch can help improve health, wellbeing and decrease pain.

What if I am not flexible?  A stretch therapist, or flexologist,  works within your limitations and customizes the stretch to fit your current state.  The therapist is trained to match the resistance of your body and muscles. Having a trained therapist to stretch you ensures that you go a little further into the stretch within a safe environment each time you have an assisted stretch. The stretch should not cause pain or discomfort.  Every little progress that can be made is helpful to your overall health and wellbeing. The therapist can educate you on what defines a typical range of mobility.

What are the benefits of the assisted stretch?  Assisted stretching offers many benefits, such as increased circulation, muscle elongation, improved flexibility, decreased pain, and overall health of the muscle groups that support your spine and body.  Assisted stretch leads to an increased range of motion, allowing you to go further into stretches and better joint mobility. This type of stretching will also increase mobility and flexibility, which we often see after two or three sessions at Absolute Health & Wellness.

Could the stretch cause injury?  Our stretch therapists are certified in the procedures and have tested the knowledge base of the musculoskeletal system.  The therapists ensure that the stretch is done correctly and never hyperextend any parts of your body.  In addition, the therapists thoroughly review your health and surgical history prior to establishing a stretch plan.
